Experience the powerful and unique interpretations of “percussion wizard” Li Biao, one of the most outstanding solo percussionists in the world today, as he joins forces with The Philharmonic Percussion Group of Berlin, an ensemble made up of current and former members of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Audiences will marvel at the percussive virtuosity in Percussion Legend, the first of two programmes. Among various percussive gems, immerse yourself in the hypnotic Fratres by Arvo Pärt, delight in Living Room Music by John Cage and be inspired by Japanese composer Minoru Miki’s Marimba Spiritual, which was dedicated to the victims of starvation and famine in Africa in 1983.

In the second programme, titled Drum Together, Li’s composition of the same name traverses multiple musical universes, and his sparkling arrangements of Vivaldi and Piazzolla are complemented by the music of Steve Reich, Wolfgang Reifeneder, Eckhard Kopetzki, Russell Peck and Liu Heng, whose arrangement Chinese Folk Song Suite pays tribute to a rich and time-honoured tradition.
